Application deadline for FT Custodian position extended to Wednesday, September 27

The application deadline for those interested in applying for a fulltime Custodian position at the Vandalia Recreation Center has been extended to Wednesday, September 27. 

Proud to assure impeccable care and maintenance of city facilities, the Vandalia Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a skilled and responsible Custodian for full time evening work at the Vandalia Recreation Center. 

The chosen candidate will maintain the safety and security of the Center and perform a variety of tasks to ensure the facility’s cleanliness to include restrooms and locker rooms, fitness and exercise areas, offices and common areas.  Duties include scrubbing; dusting; wet mopping, vacuuming, stripping, sweeping and waxing floors, trash removal; walls and windows; snow removal and application of salt to sidewalks and driveways.  They will operate power cleaning equipment, perform minor maintenance and assist in the set-up and tear-down of special events. Weekend work on a rotational basis is required.

The successful applicant must hold a high school diploma or GED and possess two to four years of self-directed custodial experience.  They must exhibit proven familiarity with custodial practices, supplies and equipment and the ability to oversee subordinate staff.  Customer service is a priority and the chosen candidate will interact exceptionally with VRC patrons and co-workers, alike.

Pay range is $12 to $20 per hour plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Candidates will be subject to an extensive background investigation, physical exam and pre-employment drug screen.

City Council to hold Public Meeting on November 6, regarding retirement and possible rehiring of city manager

Pursuant to Section 145.381 of the Ohio Revised Code, notice is hereby given that Jon Crusey will be retiring from his employment with the City of Vandalia on or about November 30, 2017 and is seeking re-employment with the City as the City Manager.

The City Council is considering the reemployment of Mr. Crusey as the City Manager and has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the issue of Mr. Crusey’s re-employment as a public employee.

The Vandalia City Council will hold a public meeting on November 6, 2017, to discuss the planned retirement of City Manager Jon Crusey. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Vandalia Municipal Building, 333 James Bohanan Drive.

Vandalia City Council executive session planned for September 25

The Council of the City of Vandalia will hold a special meeting in the Council Chambers of the Vandalia Municipal Building on Monday, September 25, at 5 p.m.  Council will adjourn to executive session for the purpose of considering the employment and compensation of a public employee, more specifically matters relating to the city manager.

Food Drive slated for weekend of October 14-15

The Vandalia-Butler Food Pantry is holding its annual Fall Food Drive the weekend of October 14-15.

Volunteers from throughout the community will be going door-to-door dropping off empty shopping bags on Saturday, October 14 in the hopes that citizens will fill the bags with food item donations for the pantry.

Simply leave the filled bag on your front porch for pickup on Sunday, October 15.

Donations can also be made the week of October 15-21 by dropping off food items at the Vandalia Fire Station #1, 8705 Peters Pike, or at the Vandalia Recreation Center, 1111 Stonequarry Road.
