With great things already happening on every corner, the City of Vandalia, population 15,000 —seven miles north of Dayton, Ohio– is accepting applications from those who would like to join our team as City Planner.
Under the Assistant City Manager’s direction, the City Planner will review, analyze and make technical recommendations on development proposals, assist in the preparation of plans— including the city’s comprehensive improvement plan, prepare guidelines for optimum use of land and structure design and work closely with citizens and other city departments to resolve questions surrounding individual development efforts and zoning laws. The City Planner will be responsible for performing inspections to ensure compliance with all zoning requirements. They will also serve as secretary to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission and Bicycle Advisory Committee. Special consideration will be given to those exhibiting creativity and passion for community development who will enjoy helping Vandalia develop and enhance its neighborhoods, public gathering spaces and commerce centers.
The lucky candidate will hold a degree in planning, public administration, geography, architecture, landscape architecture or other related field supplemented by one to two years’ municipal planning or zoning experience. They must also hold a valid Ohio Driver’s License.
This is an entry level position with a salary range of $49,920-$74,880 annually with an excellent fringe benefits package and the opportunity to learn and grow in one of the premier communities in Ohio.

CITY OF VANDALIA
The City of Vandalia, known for its impeccable grounds and facilities, is seeking a skilled, energetic, quality-conscious facilities professional to join its outstanding Parks and Recreation team. High regard for detail is required, as this candidate will be responsible for repairs, alterations and maintenance of parks, buildings and other City facilities. They must have substantial knowledge and experience in grounds and turf maintenance, landscaping, snow removal, light construction, operation of tractors, mowers, jack hammers and similar construction equipment. Those with demonstrated experience in skilled trades–painting, plumbing, carpentry and electrical—may be considered first.
Candidates must be at least 18, possess a high school diploma or GED and valid Ohio driver’s license. They must possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License or obtain one within 6 months of employment. They must reside within Montgomery County or in an adjacent county to include Butler, Warren, Greene, Clark, Miami, Darke or Preble. The position also requires a Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License in Ornamentals within 12 months of hire. Candidates will undergo oral interviews, an extensive background investigation, physical and DOT drug screen.
Hourly pay range is $17 to $28 with a liberal fringe benefits package. Starting rate will be $17. CITY OF VANDALIA
The City of Vandalia seeks an Electrical Inspector in its Development and Engineering Services Department. Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the successful candidate will be responsible for inspection of electrical installations and zoning code issues to verify conformance with codes, laws and ordinances. They will inspect electrical installations during and after construction or remodeling to enforce codes, laws and ordinances; inspect properties to enforce the zoning code; interpret legal requirements and recommend compliance procedures to contractors, craftworkers and owners and keep extensive records. They will also review construction plans and inspect properties to ensure compliance with the zoning code.
A high school diploma or GED is required, as is a valid State of Ohio Electrical Safety Inspector Certificate and a valid Ohio driver’s license.
The selected candidate must have working knowledge of Word, Excel and Access and exhibit the ability to work calmly and courteously and yet deal effectively and firmly with the public in sensitive situations.
Salary range is $24 to $36 per hour with a starting rate of $24 to $28, DOQ, in addition to an excellent benefits package.
