Athletics Programming/Recreation Manager

Salary Range $46,155 to $69,222

 The City of Vandalia is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic programmer—specializing in athletics— to serve as a Recreation Manager within its Parks and Recreation Department (VPRD). Vandalia, seven miles north of Dayton and one hour from Columbus and Cincinnati, also enjoys the convenience of having Dayton International Airport in its backyard.

The VPRD is home to a 59,000 square-foot recreation facility, featuring an indoor aquatics park, climbing wall, basketball/volleyball gymnasium, fitness center and walking/jogging track.  With 15,000 population, the City also maintains 12 public parks with baseball and soccer fields; sand volleyball courts; tennis and Pickle Ball courts; outdoor athletic training site; disc golf course; a seasonal neighborhood pool; and championship-length, par-71 public golf course located within a woodland nature reserve.  We are an athlete’s haven!

Reporting to the Recreation Superintendent, the successful Recreation Manager will hold a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Management or closely related field and 1-2 years relevant experience and/or training.  They must have strong administrative, organizational and communications skills and be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes regular evenings, weekends and holidays.  A valid driver’s license, CPR and first aid certifications, concussion certification, youth sports administrator certification and clinician certification will be required. 

The chosen candidate will demonstrate ability to effectively administer and supervise part time staff, including athletic and event coordinators, league supervisors and concession manager; knowledge of budgeting, public records, payroll and personnel management practices; public relations and marketing; information technology abilities and use of athletic/recreation equipment, practices and tools.

Parks and Recreation

Programming–Recreation Manager

The City of Vandalia is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic programmer to serve as a Recreation Manager at its state-of-the-art, 59,000 square-foot recreation facility.  The facility features an indoor aquatics park, climbing wall, basketball/volleyball gymnasium, fitness center, walking/jogging track, indoor playground, aerobics/dance room, special events room, child care facilities and offices and meeting rooms.

Reporting to the Facility Manager, this Recreation Manager will specialize in programming– performing a variety of professional and administrative work in planning, developing, directing and implementing our year ‘round, city-wide recreation program, including a highly-successful summertime day camp for youth.  They will also be responsible for programming at the Recreation Center and throughout the community, including programs for pre-school, youth, adults, the Rec Center’s child care room, indoor playground, special events, teens, athletics and fitness.  Responsibilities also include interviewing, hiring, training and supervising part time staff and supervision of all childcare functions and facilities within the Rec Center.

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation or closely related field and two or more years related experience and/or training.  They must have strong administrative, organizational and communications skills and exhibit ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes regular evenings, weekends and holidays.  A valid driver’s license is also required.

CITY OF VANDALIA
ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR

The City of Vandalia seeks an Electrical Inspector in its Development and Engineering Services Department.  Reporting to the Chief Building Official, the successful candidate will be responsible for inspection of electrical installations and zoning code issues to verify conformance with codes, laws and ordinances.  They will inspect electrical installations during and after construction or remodeling to enforce codes, laws and ordinances; inspect properties to enforce the zoning code; interpret legal requirements and recommend compliance procedures to contractors, craftworkers and owners and keep extensive records. They will also review construction plans and inspect properties to ensure compliance with the zoning code.

A high school diploma or GED is required, as is a valid State of Ohio Electrical Safety Inspector Certificate and a valid Ohio driver’s license. 

The selected candidate must have working knowledge of Word, Excel and Access and exhibit the ability to work calmly and courteously and yet deal effectively and firmly with the public in sensitive situations.

Salary range is $25.29 to $37.69 per hour, DOQ, in addition to an excellent benefits package.
