Kids, are you ready for fun, fun, and more fun this summer? Spend your summer break at the Vandalia Recreation Center summer camp and enjoy an action pack summer full of adventure and new experiences. Each week is themed for maximum summer excitement and includes a variety of activities. Children will participate in swimming, climbing wall, field trips, presentations, nature, crafts and recreational games. All camp leaders are CPR certified and have attended a camp training session.
Week 1: May 29 – June 1 *Skate into Summer – To kick off the summer, we’ll dive right into the week with activities like dodge ball, kick ball, roller-skating at Skateworld, climbing the wall, crafts, and much more!
Week 2: June 4 – 8 *Sports of all Sorts – Slam Dunk! Touchdown! Goal! Spike! Homerun! This week will be filled with tournaments of friendly competition. Be sure to show your sportsmanship as we travel to Thunderbowl lanes for Bowling.
Week 3: June 11 – 15 *Oopy Goopy – Join the fun as we plan to get messy with Pie Roulette/Whipped cream pie fun, egg toss, Belly Slide, Jello Drop, Cheeto Face, Head Dunk, Shaving Cream Hairstyles, and Team Painting. A field trip to Scene 75 will complete this crazy week of fun!
Week 4: June 18 – 22 *Mystical, Magical and Mysterious – Join us on our quest for all things magical and mysterious! Learn a cool card trick to dazzle your friends, make your own mythical creature a reality, and write your own fairy-tale during our mystical, Magical, and mysterious Week. From Harry Potter to Star Wars and Mermaids to unicorns we have something for everyone. You won’t want to miss out on this week of games and fun. Our field trip will take us to the Movie Theater to see Incredibles 2.
Week 5: June 25 – 29 *Creation Station – Explore your range of creativity, as creativity runs wild here all summer long! Art week is designed just for kids to use their imaginations and creative thought process. This week also incorporates stories, songs, games, sharing and fun! To add to the excitement of the week, Decoy Arts Studio will be our field trip for the week where little artists can make their creations come alive.
Week 6: July 2 – 6 (NO Camp on July 4) *Holiday Hoopla – Celebrate all that normally takes all year to celebrate in one week! Birthdays, Holidays and other special events will be celebrated over the course of the week. Come prepared to do popular and lesser-known holiday themed activities, celebrate birthdays, play a variety of games and have a blast.
Week 7: July 9 – 13 * Summer Splashtacular– Campers will splash their way through the week while enjoying water games, crafts, and fun. We’ll have a blast at the Kettering Adventure Reef Water Park.
Week 8: July 16 – 20 *Child vs. Wild Spirit Week – Based in part on the television show, Survivor, tribal alliances are formed and spirit fills the air as teams participate in competitions to gain points throughout the week. Some challenges involve skill and energy while others involve thought and problem solving. Group unity and participation are essential. We will also meet and compete with fellow campers around the Miami Valley and show our camp pride. This week includes a field trip to COSI on wheels.
Week 9: July 23 – 27 * Backyard Bash – Come join your friends as we enjoy the summer sun! We will have picnics at the park; take part in classic outdoor games; such as limbo, corn hole, Tug-of-War, sack races, re-lay races that you don’t want to miss, and much more. We will keep it outdoors with a field trip to Tipp City Aquatic Center.
Week 10: July 30 – August 3 * Oh the Places You’ll Go “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”. Each day, students will have the chance to learn more about a particular career, hear from community members, and be encouraged to explore their interests as life-long career paths. We will also participate in our 2nd Annual Lemonade Stand/Canned Food Drive this week! Get Air will be the highlighted field trip this week.
Week 11: August 6 – 10 * Where the Wild Things Are – This week at camp, unleash your inner monster and let the wild rumpus begins! We’ll learn about beasts of all shapes and sizes, from the pets that live in our homes, to the animals that live in our world, to the creatures that live in our imaginations. We will visit animals of all kind this week on our field trip to Idle Hour Ranch.
Week 12: August 13 – 17 *Camp Rewind – We’re spending the week revisiting all of our favorite games and activities as we put the entire summer on rewind. Children can pick activities from the weeks they loved the most! A visit to Skateworld and a camp ice cream party will be our final farewell to the best summer yet.
