Kids, are you ready for fun, fun, and more fun this summer? Spend your summer break at the Vandalia Recreation Center summer camp and enjoy an action pack summer full of adventure and new experiences. Each week is themed for maximum summer excitement and includes a variety of activities. Children will participate in swimming, climbing wall, field trips, presentations, nature, crafts and recreational games. All camp leaders are CPR certified and have attended a camp training session.

Field Trips:
Camp takes a weekly field trip to various places every Wednesday. Field trip days and locations will be available on April 17. Any child signed up for a field trip day must attend the field trip. There will be no supervision at the VRC while the camp is on the field trip. NEW to 2017- All field trips are included in the weekly fee. Click here for a list of Field trips.

You will receive a detailed schedule each week telling you what activities the camp will be participating in each day. Be sure to bring a bathing suit and towel on swim days!

Weekly Themes: 
Week 1: May 30 – June 2 *Get This Party Started – To kick off the summer, we’ll dive right into the week with activities like dodge ball, kick ball, Cassel Hills Pool, roller-skating at Skateworld, climbing the wall, crafts, and much more!

Week 2: June 5 – 9 *Oopy Goopy Join the fun as we plan to get messy with Pie Roulette/Whipped cream pie fun, egg toss, Belly Slide, Jello Drop, Cheeto Face, Head Dunk, Shaving Cream Hairstyles, and Team Painting. A field trip to the Boonshoft Museum will complete this crazy week of fun!

Week 3: June 12 – 16 *Super Sports Week– Slam Dunk! Touchdown! Goal! Spike! Homerun! This week will be filled with tournaments of friendly competition. Be sure to show your sportsmanship as we travel to Thunderbowl lanes for Bowling.

Week 4: June 19 – 23 *Wild and Wacky Water Week– Campers will slip and slide their way through the week while enjoying water games, crafts, and fun. We’ll have a blast at the Cinemark movie Theatre watching Cars 3.

Week 5: June 26 – 30 *Child vs. Wild-Olympics Style Based in part on the television show, Survivor, tribal alliances are formed and spirit fills the air as teams participate in competitions to gain points throughout the week. Some challenges involve skill and energy while others involve thought and problem solving. Group unity and participation are essential. Our field trip to Skyzone will keep campers on their toes!  All eyes are focused on Friday’s closing tribal council where one team will be the victor.

Week 6: July 3 – 7 (NO Camp on July 4) *Holiday Hoopla – Raise the flag, carve the jack-o-lantern, prepare to trick or treat, deck the halls, hang the stockings and load the sleigh as we feature a four-day holiday celebration. The fun doesn’t end there; a field trip to the Tipp City Aquatic Center will complete this non-stop week of fun!

Week 7: July 10 – 14 *Creation Station Explore your range of creativity, as creativity runs wild here all summer long! Art week is designed just for kids to use their imaginations and creative thought process. This week also incorporates stories, songs, games, sharing and fun! To add to the excitement of the week, Decoy Arts Studio will be our field trip for the week where little artists can make their creations come alive.

Week 8: July 17 – 21 *Summer Superheroes: Join us for superhero fun! We will introduce heroes, both make-believe and real-life first responders. The Vandalia Police and Fire Department will be joining camp to educate children and also participate in games and activities. Be a superhero in our community be participating in our Canned Food Drive this week! We’ll finish off the busy week at Scene 75.

Week 9: July 24 – 28 *Backyard Bash – Come join your friends as we enjoy the summer sun! We will have picnics at the park; take part in classic outdoor games; such as limbo, corn hole, Tug-of-War, sack races, re-lay races that you don’t want to miss, and much more. We will keep it outdoors with a field trip to Learning Tree Farm to play old-fashioned relay games, run a farm-themed obstacle course, visit farm animals, and pick fresh vegetables in the garden.

Week 10: July 31 – August 4 *FIT-Tastic – Throughout the week, camp will be participating in “Get Fit” Challenges. Each group will participate in activities where we’ll learn about nutrition, and also learn some new, exciting, and fun ways to get your body movin’ and groovin’. At the end of the week, we’ll put everything together to have a camp field day to show what we’ve learned! We will keep it active with field trips to multiple Metro Parks in our area.

Week 11: August 7 – 11 *Last Blast – We’re spending the week revisiting all of our favorite games and activities as we put the entire summer on rewind. Children can pick activities from the weeks they loved the most! A visit to Skateworld and a camp ice cream party will be our final farewell to the best summer yet.
