A message from Vandalia Mayor Richard Herbst

April 3, 2020

Vandalia Citizens,

As you have no doubt heard by now, Governor DeWine yesterday announced that the Stay at Home order that was set to expire on April 6 will stay in place until at least the beginning of May.

As we head into the weekend, I wanted to give you an update on our operations and share with you our priorities.

Our number one priority has been, and will continue to be, the safety and well-being of our citizens and our employees. To that end, our police, fire and EMS crews are ready at a moment’s notice to assist you. Our public safety personnel are taking every possible precaution to protect themselves while rendering the highest possible level of care. This focus on safety will not be changing anytime soon.

I would encourage you to continue to monitor our website and our Facebook and Twitter feeds, as we are updating these sites with the most recent information throughout the day. We are also reaching out through the NextDoor social media site to share the latest news.

Please continue to do your part to prevent the spread of this virus. Stay home. Go out only for essential business. Wash your hands often. Practice social distancing. These simple steps will go a long way toward stopping the spread of COVID-19.

Don’t forget about family, friends and neighbors who might be more vulnerable to the virus because of their age or medical conditions. If you are able, go to the grocery or the pharmacy for them, so they can avoid unnecessary trips.

Finally, I’d like to suggest you make it a priority to spend some time outdoors. Outdoor recreation is permitted in the Stay at Home order just as long as you remember to practice social distancing. Getting outside can help recharge your batteries and fight off cabin fever. Vandalia has 11 city parks, 1 Metro Park and beautiful neighborhoods that each have an ample supply of green space, nature and fresh air for your enjoyment. While you’re out, be sure to snap a photo, or two, and share on
social media with the hashtag #HereInVandalia

Thank you for your support and cooperation as we weather this pandemic. It won’t be easy, but we will get through this. Stay safe and please remember… we are all in this together.
