Letter to the Community

At 11:59 p.m.. this evening, the City of Vandalia will be following the instruction of the Governor’s office by requiring all non-essential workers to stay home. Many of our staff will be able to work from home using technology.

It is important for all Vandalians to know that this order does not apply to our public safety crews. Our Police and Fire Departments are working at full capacity, and will continue to do so throughout the “Stay at Home” order.

We will continue to use our social media and our website to keep you informed as we work to keep Vandalians safe from the coronavirus threat.

Some of our friends and neighbors are in vulnerable populations, with a higher risk of severe complications should they contract the COVID-19 virus. I encourage you to reach out to those people and offer assistance to keep them well-stocked in their homes.

We are encouraging all Vandalians stay safe by staying home as much as possible and by following the recommended social distancing guidelines when out for essential business.

Please remember to patronize local businesses such as restaurants, grocery stores and pharmacies who are remaining open throughout this pandemic.

The City of Vandalia is committed to providing all citizens the best possible services while keeping our staff safe.

I know these are stressful times. But I also know this is a very special community, and we will get through this by working together.

Thanks, and stay safe.
