IN RESPONSE TO GOVERNOR DEWINE’S STAY AT HOME ORDER, ONLY INDIVIDUALS WITH ESSENTIAL COURT CASES WILL BE PERMITTED TO ENTER THE COURT. ESSENTIAL COURT BUSINESS IS LIMITED TO CASES INVOLVING THE SAFETY AND WELL BEING OF THEMSELVES OR OTHERS ONLY. INCLUDED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO A DEFENDANT, PLAINTIFF, VICTIM, WITNESS OR ATTORNEY WITH A CASE REQUIRING COURT ACTION OR APPEARANCE INVOLVING ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND PROTECTION FROM ACTS OF VIOLENCE.
FURTHER, INDIVIDUALS DISPLAYING ANY SIGNS OF ILLNESS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO ENTER. YOU WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO CONTACT THE COURT BY PHONE, E-MAIL OR FAX BEFORE THE END OF THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY TO OBTAIN A CONTINUANCE ON YOUR COURT DATE.
THE COURT ENCOURAGES ALL PERSONS WITH COURT BUSINESS TO CALL OR E-MAIL THE COURT TO SEE IF YOUR BUSINESS CAN BE CONDUCTED BY PHONE OR OTHER ELECTRONIC MEANS RATHER THAN IN PERSON.
- All civil hearings, evictions, small claims and mediation hearings will be postponed and commence on May 11, 2020.
- Scheduled Pretrials for all minor misdemeanors, zoning violations, and offenses not carrying a potential penalty of incarceration shall be conducted by e-mail and/or telephone between the Prosecutor and Defendants or their Attorney.
- Scheduled Pretrials with attorneys, other than the Public Defender, shall contact the Prosecutor by telephone on the scheduled date and time of their Pretrial if the criminal or traffic offense carries a potential penalty of incarceration AND does not involve a specific victim.
- Scheduled Pretrials involving a specific victim will be held in person only.
