After a year of evidence-based community engagement, research, and volunteerism by our residents and stakeholders; the 2023 Vandalia Parks and Recreation Master Plan is publicly available, and up for consideration by the Vandalia City Council during the first quarter of 2023.

The Parks & Recreation Master Plan will create a clear set of objectives that will provide direction to City staff, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and elected officials for a short term, mid-term and long-term range.  The project work plan includes coordination with the City, progress reporting, demographic trends and benchmark analysis.  Citizens will be engaged as part of the process and will have opportunities to provide input throughout.  Below is a Project Plan Scope Summary of milestones:

 Kickoff Meeting with Project Team – Wednesday, February 9

  • Steering Committee Meeting – Wednesday, February 9
  • Virtual Community Meeting – Thursday, February 17 (CLICK FOR VIDEO)
  • Internal Focus Group and Stakeholder Meetings – March
  • External Focus Group and Stakeholder Meetings – March
  • Statistically Valid Needs Analysis Survey – Mid March – Late April
  • Electronic Survey – Late April – Mid May
  • Park and Facility Inventory and Assessment – May
  • Park by Park Workshops – June/July
  • Presentation to Steering Committee – Recommendation for Adoption of Plan – November
  • Presentation to City Council – January 17, 2023, 5 p.m. in Council Chambers.
