Elected to Council November, 1997

 A graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School, Mike Blakesly has lived in Vandalia for 40 years.

Blakesly is a retired Fire Captain and Fire Marshal for the Butler Township Fire Department, and currently serves as a part-time Fire Inspector for the City of Xenia.

“I decided to run for Council because I wanted to give back to the city that provided my family a strong community to grow and prosper,” he said. “Now I have the chance to repay what was afforded to me.”

Blakesly said the job facing City Council  is important.

“We must look to the future, as our City forefathers did, to promote, recruit and retain a strong secure economic base,” he said. “I feel my job is to protect, uphold and bolster a quality of life for upcoming generations and to keep our community a great place to work, play and live.” 

Blakesly said he will continue to strive to strengthen relations with surrounding communities and to articulate the need for more regional cooperation.  He believes Vandalia should be more collaboratively involved in forthcoming area expansion where possible, and stresses the importance of responsible development while protecting our community.

Blakesly is proud to be a part of a premier community where individuals and families can live, thrive and grow.
