Sydney Ramsey is a Girl Scout with a troop at St. Christopher Church. She is a junior at Carroll High School and an Ambassador with The Girl Scouts. Last fall she decided to earn her Gold Star Award which is similar to the Eagle Scout Badge for Boy Scouts. Sydney decided her project would be making seniors aware of scams. She worked with Vandalia Senior Center Coordinator Toni Williams and Vandalia Crime Prevention Officer Andy Wehner to research the issue and create informational flyers. She also and designed an approximately 30 minute presentation that she has given at numerous locations throughout the area.
"My goals for my gold award project are to teach people how to recognize and report scams," she said. "Scams are a growing problem because of increased globalization, and many scammers originate from outside the country."
Sydney's informational flyers are in both English and Spanish. You may click on any of the images below for a full-size version of the flyer.
